Referaat sessions

To become a registered auditor in the Netherlands, you must complete a three-year practical training programme in addition to the theoretical programme.

The practical training programme focuses on applying the knowledge and skills acquired during the theoretical programme in a practical setting and developing a proper professional attitude. However, theory does not always provide ready answers for practical situations.

In the second half of the final year of your practical training (i.e., in the sixth semester), you will need to prepare and present a thesis (referaat). The thesis involves a case description and an oral presentation before a thesis group. You will need to substantiate and defend your arguments during the oral presentation.

By preparing and presenting the thesis, you will demonstrate your ability to deal with situations for which the theoretical framework and the legal and regulatory setting do not have direct answers. Furthermore, you must demonstrate through the thesis that you possess strong communication skills.

During the practical training, you will have the opportunity to grow into an entry-level accountant who can fulfil different roles. These roles include ethical professional and assurance provider, gatekeeper, communicator, researcher, client coordinator, manager, and team player.

We offer the possibility of assisting you in the thesis process. There will be 5-6 meetings in Amsterdam/Maastricht and/or online, and you have to attend all sessions. The cost for supervising the thesis process is €2.750,=.

We offer the referaat sessions twice a year, in Spring and in Autumn.
