INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE MASTER OF AUDITING

ABOUT

We create a unique opportunity for an internationally-oriented educational program in auditing that addresses the issues of the audit profession on a global basis and prepares students to enter the profession fully prepared to practice in Europe, the United States or emerging economies.

The International Executive Master of Auditing is a joint effort by Maastricht University, VU Amsterdam and Florida State University. The degree is formally issued by Maastricht University and VU Amsterdam.

The program offers state of the art education by world class faculty from the US and Europe. The executive program of international auditing is designed to offer all of the following:

A high-quality international audit education program

For high-potential, internationally-oriented students

International Focus

Each program component incorporates international issues to better prepare our students for an international career path. All courses and exams are in English. The program offers the possibility to become a qualified auditor in The Netherlands, UK and the US.

Cultural Experience

We offer international faculty, an internationally oriented instruction setting, and extensive opportunities to interact with students from around the world. Our six two-week seminars foster a better balance between study and work or internship. It also allows students from different countries to attend classes.

Highly Interactive

Support is provided by an electronic learning environment and continuous alignment between information technology, accounting and business throughout all components of the program.

The International Executive Master of Auditing bridges the gap between practice and theory. Teaching material is problem-based, making use of cases taken from practice. Students’ existing knowledge is activated as much as possible by means of focussed discussions with fellow students and faculty. Testing takes place by means of a variety of instruments including written exams, papers, oral exams, cases and presentations.

Certain exams can also be facilitated abroad, in your own country. Group as well as individual performance is considered in grade determination. Since the program is organized around six two-week seminars, the time between each seminar is used for readings and caseworks. To support these activities an electronic learning environment is available which contains  all teaching materials. Group discussions are enabled by a discussion board, a virtual classroom is maintained for periodic interview sessions with faculty, and announcements are made via our electronic environment.

CORE PROGRAM

The core program consists of five seminars including the core educational requirements in financial accounting, internal control and accounting information systems, audit and assurance.

Students will also select one of three modules that are tailored to a specific country.

Business and Finance
Corporate Governance | Financial Management | Management Accounting & Control | Strategy, Leadership & Organization | Behavior, Ethics & Decision-making

International Practice
International Practice Auditing

Internationally operating organizations cannot perform without IT, in the broadest sense. It is therefore very important for accountants who audit these organizations to have sufficient knowledge of IT and the associated risks. The subject IT, is therefore embedded in all IEMA courses.

The seminars will be supplemented with scheduled distance learning activities. Critical analysis and the solution of real world practice problems will allow students to develop skills that are immediately useful in the practice of auditing. In-depth and interactive MBA-style case materials will be used to bring a depth of coverage to the classroom that is unique in auditing education.

The program is specially designed for high-potential, internationally-oriented students. Students from all over the world entering the program have high career potential and will have obtained a basic education in accounting and auditing. Students may already be employed as an auditor or looking to improve their educational background for entry into the accounting profession. The program is of particular interest to bright, young students with an international focus who wish to become qualified auditors in the Netherlands, UK and the US.

The program also benefits students who wish to improve their education for professional advancement in other countries (e.g. Eastern Europe). Students completing the program will be uniquely positioned to take advantage of a European auditor qualification (or passport) if such a program becomes available in the future. Finally, experienced auditors who wish to acquire additional qualifications in order to enhance their mobility may also benefit from the program.
